Any physiotherapist interested in paediatrics or orthopedics would love working there. They run special clinics once a week and look at the most unique of orthopaedic cases. It has a great work environment.

Tasks: Chosen candidate will assist with paediatric orthopaedics.

Applicant requirements: Paediatric Orthopaedic studies an advantage.

Short description: The company started based on the needs they saw in the community for assistance for severely disabled children. After being discharged from hospitals, the children are seldom taken back for physiotherapy as many stay too far from the hospitals. A team of physiotherapists therefore go out to the children and teach the families to assist the children more effectively and also assist to improve the abilities of these children. There students get their own clients to work with through-out and some wonderful stories have been shared of how much children benefit from such intensive support. Often apparatus won’t exist as parents usually come from poor areas and our students also get the chance to create things that can assist a little patient.

Tasks: Interns will assist with therapy to children with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy.

Applicant requirements: You need a car for this placement as it is on the outskirts of the city. Usually two students would work in a team.

Short description: The company is a “home” for children who are still very ill, but not ill enough to remain in a main hospital. It is a homely environment where they get schooling, have outdoors facilities, a swimming pool for hydro therapy and all forms of required therapies. They have very modern and new facilities and a team of dedicated staff to assist the children. It is a very friendly work environment.

Tasks: Chosen candidate will assist with general ward duties, providing recreational activities for groups of children and one-on-one activities for children who don’t attend school, assist with fundraising initiatives and planning, assist with general administration.

Applicant requirements: We can only place two interns per year with them. You need to be in your 3rd year or above in your studies. Police name clearance a requirement.

Applicant requirements: Students preferably older than 25 years of age is preferred. It is also best suited for male students. You need to be independent, asking questions when needed, get involved where required and working long hours when needed. This is a highly professional environment.

Tasks: As sport physio, you need to specialize in sport physiotherapy, be flexible and be prepare to work odd hours – sometimes mornings, sometimes afternoons and sometimes full days. You will take responsibility to support the club physiotherapist in his work.

Name: Children's Hospital

Location: Rondebosch

Short description: The company is dedicated entirely to children – especially children predominantly from impoverished communities throughout Africa. The idea of a company in Cape Town as a living memorial took hold of South African servicemen who were awaiting demobilisation in Italy. It captured their imagination so strongly that many of the servicemen gave two days of their pay towards the idea, and these funds were held in a trust by the company who began to champion its establishment.The Hospital officially opened its doors in June 1956. It is one of only two paediatric hospitals in Southern Africa. They have specialized units for just about every illness but specializes only in caring for children.

Tasks: Paediatric Orthopaedic studies is preferred.You will work under supervision of staff from the hospital.

Applicant requirements: This is fairly expensive to work there as you have to pay a monthly fee towards the supervision costs. You also need to enroll with a local university and register with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. We can assist you with that though. Only senior students would be considered.
