Background:
An organisation that was established in 1986 in Hout Bay, Cape Town as a feeding project for poor and vulnerable children. Today, the organisation is recognised for child protection services and care and development programmes, which are implemented in Hout Bay and Vredendal (300 km from Cape Town).
Position Overview:
This organisation is seeking to appoint a Social Work Manager (SWM), based in Hout Bay, Cape Town.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Manage and support our Social Work Department
- Provide counselling and support to children and families.
- Manage challenging family situations and refer clients for statutory services if needed.
- Facilitate therapeutic group sessions for children, parents and teachers.
- Writing of reports and planning therapeutic activities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide staff training as needed.
- Develop educational material for newsletters and other communication channels.
- Supervise and mentor students and volunteers.
- Ensure that clients records are updated and kept safe.
- Ensure that planned activities are implemented efficiently and in accordance with the organisation’s strategy, policies, procedures and practices.
- Assist with Social grant applications and late birth certificates.
The suitable candidate will be required to have:
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate or Advanced degree in social work from a Tertiary Institution or program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Relevant experience in a similar role with training in counselling.
- 10 years’ experience in investigative social work and familiarity with working with children and families.
- Knowledge of the Childrens Act.

- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in English and another South African language.
- Must be able to work in a team and individually.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Respect for individual needs and family dynamics.
- Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Specific Requirements:
- Registration with SACSSP.
- Valid driver’s license and access to own transportation.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
- Contactable references or a written reference.
- Willingness to travel to Vredendal for site visits.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, with a 45-minute lunch break.
- Flexibility to work between 07:00 and 18:00 with manager approval and after hours in emergency cases
Remuneration:
Salary: Starting from R20,000 Cost to Company per month, based on experience.
